THE MYOCARDITIS FOUNDATION

The Myocarditis Foundation is an organization that was established to hasten progress in understanding and preventing/treating Myocarditis.  They increase awareness and award grants to help guarantee that new and innovative research avenues are thoroughly funded and explored. They have been unbelievably supportive since I contacted them in the summer after Chris died.  They supported a fundraiser I put together for Chris’s birthday and put me in touch with another widow of similar circumstance.  I firmly believe in the goals of this organization and its dedication to research.

THE WASHINGTON REGIONAL TRANSPLANT COMMUNITY

The WRTC sponsors a support group for widow/widowers who are under 60.  This is the closest to a young widows group I could find and has been immensely helpful.  It makes such a difference having people who have been though it to talk to you.  Until you have lost the love of your life, you have no idea what it feels like.

Their main focus is helping and supporting patients and families who need and have had organ transplants.

HAVEN OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA

Haven is an all volunteer organization that supports those who are grieving.  They have support groups and volunteers you can talk to one on one.  They match you up with someone who has been through your same loss so they can best identify with what you are going through.  I called them not long after Chris died, desperate for some support and they were immediately responsive.  They have a call line so you can talk to someone immediately.  This is a great organization.
